Memorial Sloan Kettering Holiday Toy Drive
Celebrate the Season of Giving!
How can you help? - Donate new and unwrapped toys for kids of all ages. Starting November 12th.
Drop-off location: Room 138
The holidays are here and for the THIRD time I will be organizing a collection of toys that will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Children’s Floor. Last year we collected over 150 toys. Let’s beat that this year. The hospital provides an incredible abundance of child life support. In doing this they use all donated toys to bring any sort of happiness to an unbearable situation.
The goal of the Child Life Program is to help young patients and their families develop strategies for coping with and adjusting to treatment.
They target therapies to the age as well as the social and emotional needs of patients and their siblings to reduce fears, encourage positive approaches to treatment requirements, and normalize the hospital environment.
All of the toys that are used to reduce fears and to bring comfort are for the child to keep. They are never reused or shared, which means that they can never have enough toys on hand.
All toys donated are appreciated. Please keep in mind that most toys being used are being used in bed. So, toys that can be played with should be small enough to be played with at the bedside. (play doh, kinetic sand, craft kits, Legos, board games, dolls, barbies, fidgets, small cars, puzzles and handheld toys)
