QUEENS COMMUNITY HOUSE
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Queens Community House joins Newtown High School in welcoming your child to a new school year and would like to invite your child to participate in the Queens Community House Youth Development Center. Our program is available to 9th and 10th grade students and is designed to ensure students gain the skills needed to succeed in high school and beyond. Our program helps ensure students make a smooth transition into high school and remain on track for promotion to the next grade level. Our program offers the following services:
- Individual counseling: students in our program are assigned a Counselor who will meet with them regularly to discuss their academic and personal progress. Students can reach out to their Counselor at any time throughout the year for assistance.
- After school classes: our program offers credit-bearing after school classes that earn students academic credits which count towards graduation. Our class offerings will be announced at the start of the school year. In the past, we have offered Film, Music, Computer, and Art classes.
- Incentives: as a result of attending our program or improving their attendance/grades, students are eligible for many fun rewards such as free movie tickets, gift cards, pizza parties, and trips throughout the year.
- Parent engagement: our program staff regularly call parents to review students' grades and attendance. We also support parents by providing assistance with benefits enrollment, food pantry referrals, and more.
