About AP Exams
AP Exams are standardized exams designed to measure how well you’ve mastered the content and skills of a specific AP course. Most AP courses have an end-of-year paper-and-pencil exam, but a few courses have different ways to assess what you’ve learned.
AP Exams are administered every year in early May during a two week period.
Depending on the course, the exam is formatted differently:
- Certain AP exams contain a portfolio component
- Many AP exams include a multiple-choice section
- Many AP exams include a free-response question (FRQ) section
To learn about what your AP exams will consist, check the College Board website.
