Senior English 2022-2023

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Newtown High School!

My name is Ms. Francisco and you are enrolled in my Senior English class. I look forward to an exciting school-year. This year marks my 11th year at Newtown and am extremely happy to be part of this amazing community.

I teach all Senior English classes and take pride in helping  my students as they prepare with their college search, applications and essays. 

In this class we will explore various components of informative, narrative and argumentative writing as you prepare for College. We will work to acquire analytical skills to understand complex college-level texts, and discuss how literature reflects human nature.



What to expect in English 12:

English 12 Core Literature: 

  • In this course, students are exposed to different genres of literature with an emphasis on texts that analyze the duality of mankind.


  • The Canterbury Tales
  • Macbeth
  • The Prince (excerpts)
  • Song of Solomon
  • The Autobiography of of Malcolm 

English 12 Honors Core Literature:

  • In this course, students are exposed to different genres of literature with an emphasis on Dystopian and Existential literature. 
  • Through close reading and analysis of each of the texts, students are encouraged to challenge their belief systems, norms, and question the reason why we humans are the way we are.

Writing Focus:

  • Extensive pieces of writing for varying audiences and purposes are also part of the course experience. College Essay writing and the Research Essay are two main focuses we will dive into as the academic year progresses and help prepare students for college.
