ARISTA students are members of a city honor society and must have an average of 85% or above, have no failures on their transcript and have performed at least one term of service for the school. ARISTA students perform service in Newtown as well as 20 hours of community service. ARISTA is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. If you want to join ARISTA, contact your guidance counselor.
Art Institute
Newtown’s Art Major is a four year sequence leading to the NYS Art Regents Exam and creation of a multimedia portfolio suitable for college applications. Courses include drawing, printmaking, sculpture, fashion, commercial art and computer art.
Business Institute
The Business Institute at Newtown is a four year sequence which prepares students for entry into the workplace or further business study at the college level. Most of our graduates are college bound. Courses include computer keyboarding, MOS-Word and Power Point certification, E-Comm and Web Page Design.
College Now
College Now courses are available to qualified juniors and seniors who are interested in earning college credits while still in high school. Courses are offered at Newtown in conjunction with La Guardia Community College and include Literacy and Propaganda, Critical Thinking, Writing Seminar. We also have Business courses with Queensboro Community College.

Leadership
The School Leadership Team is comprised of parents, teachers, administrators and others who are responsible for setting the educational direction of the school. Leadership teams are responsible for developing a Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP) as well as a school-based budget. NYC schools are required to have leadership teams. Your participation will ensure that the parent voice is represented in decision making at Newtown. National Honor Society
NHS students are members of the National Honor Society and must have an average of 85% or above, have no failures on their transcript and have performed at least one term of service for the school. NHS students perform service in Newtown as well as 20 hours of community service. NHS is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. If you would like to join, contact Ms. Tsouristakis in room 365.
Pre-Engineering
The Pre-Engineering program is a four-year sequence to prepare students for Architecture and Engineering related areas of study. Courses include drafting for production, principles of engineering, architecture, and landscaping.

Offered after school and Saturdays.
